How we unconsciously engage in Engulfment and how this affects ourself in relationships
What is Engulfment?
Engulfment is when we lose ourselves in another person. We put ourselves aside in favor of another. This is rarely conscious and different than caretaking. Engulfment means we are processing another person's energy through our own system. We are taking them into us and some of us is becoming them. We believe we have to energetically match the person we are wanting to connect with by absorbing them into our system instead of letting our energy go to them to connect. The problem arises when we realize we have lost ourself in the process and no longer know how to be our self within the relationship. While this is very likely to happen in relationships where we care deeply or want to be cared for deeply, it can also happen in ordinary relationships and situations.
